Each year we come together around this time to discuss the direction and reach of the women's ministry.  It is our pleasure to introduce to you a new way for the women at Mountain Chapel to reflect on God's love together, reach out to each other if there is a need,  ask questions that you might have and generally discuss our study of the Word through this ministry.  We hope that you will read these postings and feel inspired to write and possibly work with us to post entries of your own.  We hope that you will be encouraged to comment to share your thoughts or understandings.  We hope that this blog will be a place where we can learn more about the water that Christ offers us and to then share it with others.

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,  but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14

  1. Have you met Jesus at the well? I love the fact that the name of our new blog is "Women at the Well" and not the singular form "woman" because the truth is, we all need to meet Jesus at the well.

My favorite part of this passage is near the end after Jesus identifies Himself as Messiah to this Samaritan woman. Verses 28-29, "leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did".

Can you sense the relief in her words? He knew everything she ever did and yet did not condemn her. She was a woman of mixed race, married 5 times, and currently living in sin with a man who wasn't even her husband. How scandalous! But instead of hanging her head in shame, she is so excited she leaves her water jar and runs to town inviting everyone to come meet this man!

Now try putting yourself in this story. Close your eyes and let Jesus peel away the layers of pain, regret, shame, insecurity, depression, rejection, despair, guilt, anger, whatever it is, just let it go. Leave it at the well. When we confess our sin and ask for forgiveness, the slate is wiped clean. God remembers it no more!

Jesus invites everyone to meet Him at the well because that's where true healing begins. Whether you have a past filled with sin or are in the midst of it right this very minute, go meet Him at the well. Accept His forgiveness. He's the One who knows everything about you and yet loves you completely.

  2. Does the Women's ministry do any outreach, outside of the church specifically? Just posing the thought and the discussion.

  3. I usually consider events/activities where women in the community are invited an outreach. So by that definition we have; all of our Bible studies, Chocolate Chat, Daughter's in Christ Banquet in May, Quarterly Movie Night, the Beth Moore Simulcast coming September 10 and we are involved with Pathways and Shelby County SafeHouse. Is there an area or group of people that you would like to reach?
